ABSTRACT
Domestic design standard do not include a method for estimating the uplift pressure acting on the crown wall of rubble mound structure, so a modified form of Goda’s formula is used. However, this method has not been clearly established. In this study, a two-dimensional hydraulic model experiment was conducted to examine the uplift pressure acting on the lower part of the crown wall of a rubble-mound structure. Model experiments were conducted on various wave conditions and bottom heights of the crown wall. The test wave is irregular waves under non-breaking wave. The uplift pressure was large at the front of the crown wall and decreased toward the rear. And the distribution of uplift pressure showed an exponential shape. The variable that had the greatest influence on the magnitude of the uplift pressure was the bottom height of the crown wall. An empirical formula for predicting uplift pressure was proposed using the results of experiments performed under various conditions.
